There are journeys that take you from one place to another, and then there are journeys that make you forget where you were headed in the first place. A ride through the winding roads of Kerala belongs to the second kind.
The morning begins quietly. A soft veil of mist hangs over the landscape as the engine comes to life, its gentle purr breaking the stillness of the early hours. Ahead lies an open road, winding through sleepy villages, lush greenery, and hills waiting to be discovered. With every kilometre, the noise of everyday life fades a little further away, replaced by the simple rhythm of the road.
As the journey climbs into the hills, Kerala reveals another side of itself. The scenery slowly transforms into endless shades of green—sprawling spice plantations, towering trees, winding mountain roads, and peaks disappearing into clouds of mist. The air becomes cooler and fresher, carrying with it the earthy fragrance of rain, cardamom, and the forest.
Every turn seems to hold a new surprise. A small village tucked between the hills, a lonely viewpoint overlooking layers of green mountains, or a sudden glimpse of sunlight breaking through the mist—these are the moments that make the journey unforgettable. There is no hurry to reach the destination. The road itself becomes the destination.
With the windows open and the cool breeze brushing past, the ride feels less like travelling and more like reconnecting—with nature, with silence, and perhaps even with oneself. Kerala’s hills have a way of slowing time down, encouraging you to pause and simply take in the beauty around you.
As evening approaches, the golden light of the setting sun begins to settle over the hills. The mist glows softly, the roads grow quieter, and the landscape takes on a peaceful charm. After a day spent chasing winding roads and hidden views, there is a quiet satisfaction in knowing that some journeys are remembered not for where they ended, but for everything they gave you along the way.
And as the last light disappears behind the hills, one thought remains: sometimes, the best way to find a beautiful destination is simply to follow the road and see where it takes you.
