Gita Gopinath to head of IMF

Gita Gopinath to become first deputy managing director of International Monetary Fund (IMF). Gita Gopinath will take over from Geoffrey Okamoto, who is currently in charge, in the event of his resignation early next year. 

Gita Gopinath is currently the chief Economist of the IMF. She is the first women to hold this position. Gita who took over in October 2018, was due to return to her parent company, Harvard University, next journey. She is professor of International Studies in Harvard Economics. 

Gita Gopinath is the daughter of T. V. Gopinath and Vijayalakshmi from Kannur. For some time, Gita Gopinath was the Financial advisor to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. 

She has authored numerous research articles on Exchange rate, trade and investment, International financial crises, Monetary policy, debt and emerging market crises. She has also served the Co-director of International finance and macro economics program at National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). She also served as a member of the Eminent persons Advisory Group. She was chosen as a young Global Leader by the world Economic Forum in 2011.Gita Gopinath puts forward remarkable conclusions about the economic downturn in Greece. She was an advisor to the  G20 at the Indian Ministry of Finance. 

She was a member of Economic Advisory Panel of Federal Reserve Bank of New York and a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. 

In 2021, Financial Times named her among the '25 most influential women of the year', the international Economic Association named her the Schumpeter -Haberler Distinguished Fellow, the Agricultural &Applied Economics Association recognised her with the John Kenneth Gelbraith Award, and the Carnegie corporation named her among 'Great(American)Immigrants '. She was named among the Bloomberg '50 people who defined 2019', a 'Top Global Thinker' by Foreign policy, and among the 'Women who Broke Major Barriers to Become Firsts' by Time Magazine.

She was born in India but holds U.S. Citizenship. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University in 2001,after earning a Bachelors degree from Lady Shri Ram College and M.A. degree from Delhi School of Economics and the University of Washington. In 2019 , India honoured them with the Pravasi Bharathiya Samman Award.

The Trek Inside Conolly’s Plot – Teak Plantation at Nilambur

College days are always filled with little adventures, and one such memorable experience was our trip to Conolly’s Plot in Nilambur. The trip was part of our fifth module at MDC, and though it was academic in purpose, it turned out to be far more than just an ordinary study visit. Two of our teachers and eight students, including me, set out together on this short but beautiful journey. The Journey Begins We boarded our college bus up to Pandikkad and from there switched to a private bus that would take us to Nilambur. The ride was a little tiring, and I even felt a bit nauseous along the way. Still, the excitement of visiting the famous teak plantation kept my spirits high. We reached around 11:30 AM.   Proud Moment - I was able to volunteer at the Kerala Innovation Festival . _Thank God for giving me such an achievement before I even started._ ഇന്ന് എനിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും സന്തോഷമുള്ള ദിവസമാണ്. ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കലും മറക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത ആ 2 മനോഹരമായ ദിവസങ്ങൾ. അതെ കേരള ഇന്നോവേഷൻ ഫെസ്റ്‌വെൽ (KIF) ൽ വളണ്ടിയർ എന്ന വലിയ ഒരു അവസരം ലഭിച്ചു. അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായി എൻ്റെ ഒരു സുഹൃത്ത് കാണിച്ചുതന്ന അവസരം മായിരുന്നു അത്. ആദ്യമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു അവസരം ലഭിച്ചത്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഫെസ്റ്റിവല്ലിൽ എന്നേയും എൻ്റെ നാടിനെയും വീടിനെയും കോളേജിനേയും introduce ചെയ്യാൻ സാധിച്ചതിൽ ഏറെ അഭിമാനം തോന്നുന്നു. ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ കേരളതിൻ്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഒരുപാട് സുഹൃത്തുക്കളെ സമ്പാദിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു. ഒരു BBA വിദ്യാർത്ഥി എന്ന നിലയിൽ എനിക്ക് ലഭിക്കേണ്ട എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങളും ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ എനിക്ക് ലഭിച്ചു. വലിയ professionals, Founders, creators, students, guests, Authorities, actors and managers, etc. നെ എല്ലാവരെയും കാണാനും സംസാരിക്കാനും അസിസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യാനും കണക്ഷൻസ് ബിൽഡ് ചെയ്യാനും സാധിച്ചു. ഒരു കോളേജ് ലൈഫിനപ്പുറത്തുള്ള ...
