Our rivers are our lifeline. We are totally dependent for our daily water needs, agriculture and electricity on not only the major rivers and their tributaries but also on smaller rivers that criss cross the length and breadth of our country. If these rivers gradually dry up, our survival will be under threat.
All across the country strict guidelines for treatment of industrial and human waste that is disposed into the rivers have to be enforced. There should be harsh measures taken against those individual industries who violate these norms.
Only a sustained educational campaign will help alert the citizens and rouse the government to take immediate stringent measures. In India we revere and worship our rivers.
